Gothic Cathedrals
Starting in 12th century France, Gothic architecture spread all over Europe. Being a combination of highest skills in statics, masonry and glass art, it was the style of building medieval cathedrals and churches. Aiming to impress with a demonstration of power and pride in the christian world, they also have been amongst the tallest buildings from the middle ages until the advent of the skyscrapers.

Venice, Italy
When the first Doge was elected by Venetians in 726, a proud history started for the aquatic city state of Venice, undisturbed for almost eleven centuries. In 828, Venice needed a patron Saint. Venetian merchants set out to steal the bones of St. Mark from Alexandria.

Christmas in Germany
Christmas is probably the most important holiday season in Germany. With a long christian tradition to look back to, strong customs emerged and are visible in cheerful decorations everywhere. Some personal photos and impressions are translated into Japanese to share our culture.

Carcassonne, France
Famous for its preserved medieval fortificacions, Carcassonne is a scenic city banking the Aude river in the Languedoc region of southern France. It achieved fame during its role as a stronghold for the rebellious Cathars during the Albigension Crusades. Continued fortification transformed it into a citadel, protecting French interests on its southern border to the kingdom of Aragon.
